PRE SEA TRAINING FOR OFFICER DECK CADETS OF MERCHANT NAVY
This course will lead the candidates to become the Captain of the ship. Captain of the ship is also referred as Master mariner. On successful completion of this pre-sea training, the candidates are eligible to become nautical Deck Cadets on board a ship. The leading international shipping companies are regularly conducting campus interviews at our Academy for the job placement. Our Academy has achieved 100% placement record for our cadets.
This course consists of six semesters. The B.Sc (Nautical Science) degree will be awarded by the University on the successful completion of Three years duration. After 3 years, the cadets will be joining as the Trainee Cadet Officers on board the ship. They will have to obtain 12 months sea experience. On completion of 12 months sea experience, they will be promoted directly as SECOND OFFICER without any further examinations. With further sea service & exams, they will be promoted to Chief Officer and then becoming Captain of the ship.
Eligibility Conditions.
(a) 10 2 pass certificate or equivalent examination with not less than 60% in PCM and 55% in English.
Or,
B.Sc. in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry or Electronics with Physics as an individual subject in one of the year, with an average of not less than 55% of marks in the final year.
Or,
B.E. / B Tech Degree from I.I.T or from a college recognized by AICTE. The candidates should have minimum 50% marks in English language at 10th / 12th standard or in the Degree course conducted by recognized Board or any University. Age less than 24 yrs on 01 Aug 2010.
(b) Medical & psychological fitness as per IMU rules / DG Shipping standards for sea service.
(c) Eye sight minimum 6/6 with normal colour & night vision tested from a reputed hospital.
PRE-SEA TRAINING - GENERAL PURPOSE RATING (6 Months)
On successful completion of this Pre - Sea training, the candidates will be able to join as a RATING in Indian & Foreign shipping companies as a Deck Crew or Engine Crew. The G.P.Rating candidate will be able to work in all seamanship activities on-board at deck side and other work at Engine side. With further Sea-service, they will be promoted as DECK SERANG, BOSUN, Able-Bodied Seamen / Engine Fitter etc., They can also be promoted to officer Level with certain service and qualification requirements.
After completing this Pre-Sea Training, exams will be conducted by Board of examination for sea farers (BES) & successful candidates are eligible to obtain Continuous Discharge Certificate (INDIAN CDC) from the Directorate General of Shipping, Government of India.
Admission for General Purpose Rating (GP) - 6 months Course
ELIGIBILITY:-PASS IN 10th Standard with Total Average 40% marks.
(With Individual Pass in Mathematics, Science Subjects). (Or)
PASS in 2 year I.T.I Course from Govt. approved institute with
Minimum 50% aggregate marks in final year.
40% Marks in English Subject is required either in 10th or 12th Standard (or) Any Degree / Diploma Course.
AGE LIMIT:-Min. 17years 6 months - 25 yrs (maximum)
Career Path For Hotel Management Students:-
All departments unrelated to navigation engine and entertainment, fall under the hotel division. This includes all concessionaires, housekeeping, food and beverage and pursers. Jobs in the hotel department on a cruise ship are very similar to jobs you will find in a five-star hotel or resort. The hotel manager (Chief Purser) oversees all shipboard services and is responsible for supervising all staff and crew in these departments. Department heads in turn report to the hotel manager and are accountable for the running of their individual departments. In general the Purser's Department is offering the following cruise ship jobs: Chief Purser / Hotel Manager, Deputy Purser / Assistant Hotel Manager, Purser, Assistant Purser, Junior Assistant Purser, Crew Purser, Shore Excursion Manager, Assistant Shore Excursion Manager, Cost Accountant, Revenue Accountant.
Chief Purser / Hotel Manager (supervises all other departments on board with the exception of deck and engine) - extensive hotel experience of no less than five years as a hotel manager, a degree in hotel management and /or prior cruise ship experience required. Fluent English Language skills required. Salary range: $4500-6800 U.S. per month, depending on the cruise line.
Deputy Purser / Assistant Hotel Manager (supervises all other departments on board with the exception of deck and engine) - extensive hotel experience of no less than five years as a hotel manager, a degree in hotel management and /or prior cruise ship experience required. Fluent English Language skills required. Salary range: $3900-5700 U.S. per month, depending on the cruise line.
Purser (supervising day to day operations of the pursers office / front desk as directed by the Chief Purser) - previous hotel experience preferable, a degree in hotel management and /or prior cruise ship experience is required. Fluent English Language skills required. Salary range: $2500-3700 U.S. per month, depending on the cruise line. Possibilities for promotion to Deputy Purser.
Assistant Purser (reception desk-general information, accommodation problems, complaints, money transactions, shipboard announcements etc.) - previous hotel experience and /or university degree preferable. Fluent English Language skills required and speaking other languages (German, French or Spanish) is a plus. Salary range: $1900 -2300 U.S. per month, depending on the cruise line. Possibilities for promotion to Purser.
Junior Assistant Purser / Guest Service Associate (Front Desk Receptionist) - previous hotel experience and /or university degree preferable. Fluent English Language skills required and speaking other languages (German, French, Spanish or another European language) is a plus. Salary range: $1600 -1800 U.S. per month, depending on the cruise line. Possibilities for promotion to Assistant Purser.
Crew Purser (handles the administration of the crew: sign-on and sign-off, cabin assignments, crew identification cards etc.) - previous hotel experience and /or university degree preferable. Accounting background helpful. Fluent English Language skills required. Salary range: $1900-2200 U.S. per month, depending on the cruise line.
Shore Excursion Manager (responsible for the presentation, promotion, supervision and arrangement of the shore excursions offered in the various ports of call). Experience in tourism, previous travel-related experience and/or minimum 1 year on board starting from an entry-level Cruise Staff or Assistant Shore Excursion Manager position required. Fluent English Language skills required. Salary range: $2300-3200 U.S. per month, depending on the cruise line.
Assistant Shore Excursion Manager (responsible for the promotion, selling and arrangements of the shore excursions offered in the various ports of call as directed by the Shore Excursion Manager). Experience in tourism, previous travel-related experience and/or minimum 1 year on board starting from an entry-level Cruise Staff position required. Fluent English Language skills required. Salary range: $1800-2100 U.S. per month, depending on the cruise line.
Cruise Sales Consultant - must posses the ability to increase company revenue through promotion of future cruise sales, provide all information relating to future cruise itineraries and be familiar with all aspects of company products, individual ship’s layout, categories and destinations. Must be able to conduct a professional presentation in front of large audience if needed. Minimum 2 years experience in sales at hotel, cruise line or travel/hospitality company, or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Minimum high school or equivalent degree is mandatory. College or University degree is a plus. Excellent English language skills required, bi-lingual skills preferred. Salary range: $1800-2200 U.S. per month, depending on the cruise line.
Cost Accountant - the main responsibility is inventory control, and managerial reporting, including generating a daily food and supply cost. Also, weekly receiving and inventorying of all items in the food, bar and photo departments. A major part of the duties expected of the cost accountant is carried out on personal computers. Fluent English Language skills required.
Revenue Accountant - the main responsibility is the operation of our cashless cabin charge system and NCR or MICROS register system. The duties include early morning closing of registers, running reports, balancing daily revenue, and generating passenger statements. Fluent English Language skills required.
